Unusual Rescue from Ruddington Railings!

Just before 8 o’clock this morning (Thursday 14th April) two crews from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue attended a rather unusual incident – after a caller reported that a young deer had become trapped in iron fencing along Grange Mews in Ruddington.

When firefighters from West Bridgford and East Leake arrived at Westgate Lodge, off Wilford Road, they discovered the deer stuck there, in considerable distress.

Thankfully they were able to calm the animal, release it, and then shepherd it back to safety on Ruddington Grange Golf Course. After reviewing CCTV footage a nearby home-owner was able to work out the deer had been trapped for three hours before crews arrived.

East Leake Fire Station is an on-call station and home to the animal rescue unit, with firefighters there specially trained in rescuing animals. Its Station Manager Craig Day said: “Animal rescues are one part of a firefighter’s role and we are glad that the deer walked away uninjured after our rescue.”

It’s likely the young deer strayed from Ruddington Grange Golf Course
